Free Internet Access |
Sure, you can get lost of small
stuff for free, but can you really get free Internet in this day and age where it seems pretty soon we have to pay for the air we breath?…
Yes, surprisingly there are a few ways you can still access the web for free.
Maybe you live outside North America or your travel has taken you to a faraway land, what you may need could be a dial-up service.
You can look to Freedom List, as the website will show you a good list of free ISPs, organized according to countries.
The next time your WiFi card goes faulty, or simply you do not have time to go down to a Starbuck, check Freedom List out.
2. Internet for Low Income Americans
There are also initiatives from the government to promote Internet usage among low-income Americans.
Such service is usually provided real cheap or even free.
The availability of such programs a subjected to factors such as location, availability of funds, and the applicant’s income level. With its “
Connect to Compete” program, FCC undertakes to provide low-cost computers and cheap ($9.99 monthly) Internet access to low-income households.
In addition to the government initiatives, there are also some private Internet programs for low-income residents; CheapInternet.com happens to be one of them.
3. Your ISP
Not many are aware of it, but your current ISP may just bundle in a free dial-up Internet access into your account.
Usually there is a cap on the total hours to get free dial-up access, assuming you do subscribe to a broadband account.
Certain friendly ISPs actually have a directory of dial-up numbers, so this would be helpful as you travel across states or even out of North America. The logic of using local dial-up numbers is that there will be no long-distance fee imposed.
You can call your ISP to inquire about this, or simply go to their website to find out more. Such information is usually rendered readily.
As for me, it was really a challenge to attempt to hook up to the Internet with a dial-up modem again. It really seems like ages since I last used it.
All Free ISP boasts of a massive database and it is super fast for them to link you up with a service provider. It claims that its database is very extensive especially in the context of North America.
Simply head to their website and specify your Province or State using the drop-down menu.
Alternatively, you can key in direct your postal code or ZIP. You should be able to see various options suggested by All Free ISP.
The result page will display various cheap and free ISPs whose networks you can connect to from where you are.
It is also helpful that the list is broken down into cities. Click on the individual link and you will be led to a page with more information on that particular ISP and the corresponding services.
5. Your Town or County
It seems like the folks in charge are still fickle minded about
Municipal Internet Access or Municipal WiFi (at least for most communities). But I have on many occasions driven across America, and I noticed on more than a few occasions my WiFi card actually picked up signals, which could be traced back to the individual county.
Obviously, if I happen to stay there, I could open an account and access the Internet for virtually free.
It is great to be a taxpayer in the U.S.!
Municipalities also make free and unlimited Internet available to the masses at places like the libraries, municipal offices and some schools.
The best way to know what your community is on, get in touch with the local office directly.
